    HANG AROUND

    1. To hang around somewhere is to spend time there doing very little.

    Informal English.

    This phrasal verb can also be hang round and hang about.

    Examples of use:

    1. Will you stop hanging around the kitchen and go and do something useful!
    2. You go on ahead. I’ll hang around here and wait for William to arrive.
    3. I’ve been hanging round all day waiting for the plumber to arrive.

     

    2. To hang around with someone is to spend time with them

    This phrasal verb can also be hang round and hang about with somebody.

    Examples of use:

    1. We used to hang around together when we were children.
    2. She hangs around with Alice and Jenny.
